Privacy policy
Last updated 4 October 2026. This policy covers the UK Benefits Check app for iPhone and iPad, and this website.
Four different things are described below, and they are genuinely different. The app collects nothing. Visiting this website and emailing us both involve some information, and this policy says exactly what and why.
1. The app
The app collects and transmits no personal data. There is no account and no sign-in. It makes no network connections at all: every calculation runs on your iPhone or iPad, using rates built into the app.
It stores two things on your device, in the app’s own storage:
- any calculations you choose to save, including the answers behind them;
- your light or dark appearance preference.
While you are answering questions, your answers are held only in the app’s memory. They are not written to storage unless you save a calculation, and they are gone once you leave the calculation without saving or the app is closed.
None of it is sent anywhere. We cannot see your answers or your estimates, and there is no way for us to request them.
You can delete any saved calculation inside the app at any time. Deleting the app removes everything else it has stored. Because nothing left your device, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
If you back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or to a computer, that backup includes the app’s data, in the same way it includes your other apps’. That backup is under your control and Apple’s, and is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
In the App Store, the app is declared as Data Not Collected. That declaration is about data collected through the app, which is none. It says nothing about this website or about emailing us — sections 2 and 4 cover those.
2. This website
These pages set no cookies. They run no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party scripts, they embed no third-party content, and there is no contact form. The fonts are served from this site, not from a font service, so visiting a page makes no request to anyone else.
The site is hosted by Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). To deliver a page and to protect the service from attack and abuse, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical information about the request, including your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user-agent string. This happens under Cloudflare’s own role and policies as our hosting and security provider; the lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a website that stays up and is not abused. We do not use this information to identify you, we do not combine it with anything else, and we do not build profiles from it. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy for what it does with it and for how long.
3. Apple
Apple distributes the app, and Apple processes information under its own privacy policy, not ours. When you download or update the app, Apple records that. Depending on the choices you have made in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements on your device, Apple may also provide us with limited diagnostic information — crash reports, for example — and aggregated statistics about how the app is used overall.
We use anything we receive only to find and fix faults. We do not control what Apple makes available, and we cannot turn it on or off for you.
4. Emailing us
Emailing support necessarily gives us your email address, whatever you write, and anything you attach. We use it only to answer and manage your request — for example, to reproduce a bug you reported or to reply to a question. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in supporting the people who use the app. We do not use your address for marketing and we do not share it, except where we are legally required to.
Mail to support@ukbenefitscheck.co.uk is delivered to and stored in an iCloud Mail mailbox provided by Apple, which holds the message on our behalf under Apple’s own privacy policy.
Please don’t send more than you need to. We do not need your National Insurance number, your award letter, your bank details, your address or anyone’s date of birth, and we would rather not receive them. To report a wrong figure, tell us what the app showed, what you expected, and roughly which circumstances applied.
How long we keep it. We keep support correspondence for up to 12 months from the last message in the exchange, so that we can follow up on a bug or recognise a recurring problem, and then delete it. Ask us to delete your correspondence sooner and we will, unless we are legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Under UK data-protection law you have rights over personal data we hold about you: to be told what we hold, to get a copy of it, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and in some cases to receive it in a portable form. Here, the only personal data we hold is support correspondence (section 4), so that is what those rights apply to. There is nothing to request in respect of the app, because the app gives us nothing.
To exercise any of these rights, write to support@ukbenefitscheck.co.uk. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data-protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
If this changes
If a future version of the app collects or transmits anything — if we ever add optional cloud sync, for instance — we will update this policy and the App Store privacy declaration before that version is released, and say plainly what changed. The date at the top is the date this page last changed.
